A widow has spoken out after her husband was killed in a workplace accident, saying her family have suffered "hell".

Cathy Parfitt, of King's Crescent, Tiverton, said the family are "devastated" after the loss of Tony Reed, 40, three years ago, who died after an oil drum he was welding exploded, reported the Gazette.

The mother-of-two revealed how accidents at work can affect families, saying: "We are getting there now, but it has been very hard for me and the children."

However, Mrs Parfitt said she does not want to see anyone "done" for it as she realises accidents do happen in the workplace, which may interest contractors all risk holders.

Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspectors told the newspaper that the incident, at Chulmleigh-based R J Bateman, was not isolated and two previous workers had been injured on the job.

Steve Panton, prosecuting for the HSE told Barnstaple magistrates court: "The main problem is that the company obviously did not learn from the two previous incidents."

The HSE has recently warned businesses to ensure that the correct procedures are in place to safeguard staff members.ADNFCR-2022-ID-19330323-ADNFCR
