A firm has been fined over £15,000 after a worker was crushed by equipment at a water filtration company, showing the need for plumbers liability insurance.
Eimco Water Technologies of Brunel Way, Colchester, pleaded guilty to breaching section 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 after an incident in 2008.
Southampton magistrates court was told how Grzegorz Trafisz, from Southampton, was working at Marchwood Power Station Construction site in Hampshire when a component of a stop-log, weighing about 2,000 kg, fell on top of him.
A Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigation found that Eimco Water Technologies had failed to take steps to protect Mr Trafisz, who suffered fractures to his pelvis.
James Powell, HSE inspector, said: "Companies should remember that they are responsible for ensuring that all their employees, whether directly employed by them or not, are entitled to work in the safest possible environment with equipment that is fit for purpose."
Business liability insurance customers who are keen to learn more about tackling deaths and injuries in the construction industry are being invited to a free major safety event in Cumbria on September 30th.
Held at the University of Cumbria, businesses will be informed about raising awareness of health and safety issues.
