The explosion of a road tanker which led to a worker suffering serious injuries has resulted in a Selby firm being prosecuted, public liability insurance holders have been told.

Repair Protection and Maintenance Limited of Kellington was fined £3,250 with costs of £2,656.60 after breaching Regulation 4(2) of the Confined Spaces Regulations 1997 and Regulation 3(1) of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.

Selby Magistrates Court heard how a man was injured in the blast when a spark from an attempt to re-light the LPG heater ignited flammable gases.

An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive found that the heater was not working when the vapours exploded.

In the incident, the employee suffered a fractured skull and severe burns to the legs, arms and face.

Earlier this month, TAV Engineering were found guilty of failing to protect workers and members of the public following an investigation into an explosion at Buncefield Oil Storage Depot in 2005.ADNFCR-2022-ID-19855385-ADNFCR
