The need for plumbers liability insurance holders to become fully registered gas engineers has been highlighted after a workman was prosecuted.

Robert Fordham, of Tring Road, Long Marston, pleaded guilty to breaching two counts of Regulation 3(7) of the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 and to one count of the Regulation 3(3) of the same act and was fined £8,000 with costs of £2,097.50.

The City of London Magistrates Court heard how Mr Fordham carried out gas work while he was not registered, while he also pretended to be registered with CORGI when he was not.

Darren Aldis, Health and Safety Executive inspector, said: "Robert Fordham deliberately misled people about his qualifications and registration to sell his services and make money. There is a very good reason for the registration scheme – to give customers the confidence that their engineer is competent."

Earlier this month, Roger David Manning was prosecuted after putting farm workers at risk during gas works at a farm.ADNFCR-2022-ID-800044560-ADNFCR
