Public liability insurance holders have been warned about illegal gas fitting after a Hertfordshire tradesman was prosecuted.
Dermot Healy, trading as D Healy Plumbing and Heating, pleaded guilty to breaching Regulation 3(3) of the Gas Safety (Installation & Use) Regulations 1998 at two separated addresses. He was also prosecuted under Section 3(2) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and fined £500 with costs of £1,500.
City of London Magistrates Court heard how an elderly couple from Edgware were poisoned by carbon monoxide after work was carried out at their property by Mr Healy.
Investigations by the Health and Safety Executive revealed that Mr Healy had held a CORGI registration from February 2001, however, this was not renewed when it expired in March 2005 and he had never received any refresher training.
Charles Linfoot, HSE inspector, said: "He [Mr Healy] acted illegally in that he was an un-registered gas engineer and carrying out work he was not qualified to do."
Earlier this month, Chris Bradshaw, of Tywyn, was prosecuted after following 14 breaches of the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations.
