Plumbers liability insurance holders have been warned about the dangers of carrying out substandard work after the prosecution of an Essex man.
Michael O'Sullivan, from Tillingham Court, Winter Way, Waltham Abbey, admitted breaching Section 3(2) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and Regulation 3(1) of the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 and was fined £1,000 with £500 costs.
Harlow Magistrates Court heard how Mr O'Sullivan laid gas pipes underneath a property at a mobile home park without ensuring there was proper ventilation.
Residents at the site in Breach Barns, Waltham Abbey, contacted the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) after discovering unsafe fittings on cylinders of liquefied petroleum gas.
Sines Parks, which owns and runs the facility, admitted breaching Regulation 4 of the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 and was fined £2,500 with £2,000 costs.
Steve Hook, HSE inspector, said: "If one of these pipes had leaked gas underneath the mobile home, it could have seriously endangered peoples lives."
Earlier this month, Ryan Thorpe, from Pontefract, was given a suspended jail sentence for carrying out illegal gas installations in Goole.
