An industrial disease has been blamed for the death of a Scarborough man after he spent most of his career exposed to asbestos, public liability insurance holders have been told.
The Scarborough Evening News reported that 84-year-old William Preston, of Burniston, died of the asbestos-related cancer - asbestosis.
An inquest at Scarborough county court was told that he spent much of his working life in confined spaces while working at shipyards.
He would have to drill through asbestos insulation on the ships, creating lots of dangerous dust.
The source reported that Mr Preston's wife of 58 years, Dorothy, said her husband first fell ill in June this year.
Coroner Michael Oakley said: "Given the evidence, I will record a verdict that he died from industrial disease."
Joiners liability insurance holders were told earlier this week about a joiner from Derby, 57-year-old David Hartley, died as a result of working with the deadly asbestos material.
