The wife of a plumber who died almost three years after being diagnosed with mesothelioma has described her husband as "one in a million", public liability insurance customers have been told.

Martin Lofty, 54, from Norwich, was diagnosed with the asbestos-related disease in 2006 and defied doctors who said he only had a matter of weeks left to live, reported the Norwich Evening News.

Mr Lofty, a plumbing and heating engineer even continued working for a further two years before succumbing to the illness last month.

Wife Mandy told the newspaper that her husband was "such a fighter" who refused to give in to the disease.

"He was always such a family man who loved the kids and just fought until the end. He fought so, so hard. He was one in a million. He was just my life, I know everyone says that, but he was. He was such a family man and he was so loved by so many people," she added.

Public liability insurance holders were recently targeted by the Health and Safety Executive in an asbestos-awareness campaign which warned of the dangers of working with the deadly material.ADNFCR-2022-ID-19535050-ADNFCR
