Bosses have been warned about the need to safeguard their work premises against slips and falls this winter, as the icy conditions continue to cause havoc across the country.
Jeremy Bradshaw, Mace and Jones personal injury lawyer, said: "Extra care should be taken over places where there is a greater risk of danger, such as steps or slopes. Care should also be taken to prevent slipping in instances of transfer of snow or water off shoes on to polished floors as people enter buildings."
He added that absorbent mats should be placed inside doors to collect water off shoes, while regular checks should be made to ensure that these have not become too damp and failing to absorb damp.
From a legal point of view, Mr Bradshaw told public liability insurance holders that the lack of any documentary evidence may mean that an employer or building manager cannot satisfy a court that systems were in place to prevent injuries.
Experts from the Met Office have warned that the cold conditions in the UK are due to continue for at least another week.
