A window cleaner who hangs under the glass at the top of the Blackpool Tower has backed a national safety campaign which warns public liability insurance holders about the dangers of working at height.
Dave Hulme, who uses a harness to carry out maintenance on the 158-metre-high tourist attraction, said that he is lending his support to the Health and Safety Executive's (HSE's) Shattered Lives initiative.
"People seem to think its a dangerous job, but working 150 metres above the ground isnt really any more dangerous than working 15 metres above the ground. You just need to make sure you use the right safety equipment," he advised.
HSE inspector Allen Shute added that while slips, trips and falls might seem funny, they shatter the lives of thousands of people every year.
Earlier this week a Leicester roofer was fined £4,950 for putting himself and two of his employees at risk of falling more than seven metres from a building.
