A sector watchdog has issued new waste storage guidelines designed to protect employees and members of the public from coming into contact with harmful materials.
The Health and Safety Executive's (HSE's) new advice booklet recommends that companies implement appropriate measures which will prevent serious injury or even death, which may apply to painters and decorators liability insurance holders.
"When setting this contract the safety of the site employees and members of the public should be a primary consideration," the HSE advised.
The substances covered by the new guidelines, which focus on segregation, handling and storage, include gas cylinders, aerosols, batteries, waste oils, asbestos, paints, adhesives and solvents.
In related news, the HSE recently stated that those who work with biocides, such as painters and decorators, are particularly at risk of chemical accidents, after the sector watchdog announced it is to launch a ten-week consultation on a European Commission proposal concerning the use of these substances, which may interest liability insurance customers.
