A manifesto by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) has received political backing from a number of members.
The Creating a Healthier UK plc proposal has led to a motion being tabled by Bob Russell, Liberal Democrat MP for Colchester, with 25 other members also signing up.
Mr Russell said that he is supporting the manifesto as it aims to bring about a well-thought out approach to improving the nation's health and wellbeing.
"Businesses in the UK, in partnership with the government and others, have a critical role to play in helping improve the health of the nation. But I also find the IOSH vision of creating a risk-intelligent society to be particularly praiseworthy," he added.
The manifesto is looking for action in four different areas; health, education, small businesses and good advice, with MPs being asked to commit to promoting a number of other campaigns and measures.
Public liability insurance holders looking to improve their health and safety performance can also access a number of documents through IOSH on wellbeing at work.
