Public liability insurance holders have been warned about how they store highly flammable substances after the prosecution of a firm.

AM Widdowson & Son of Mill Lane Industrial Estate, Leicestershire, pleaded guilty to breaching regulation 6(2) of the Control of Major Accident Hazards Regulations 1999 and Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

It was fined a total of £5,000 and ordered to pay £4,900 in costs.

Coalville magistrates court heard how the company stored large amounts of liquefied petroleum gas for around seven months. It also failed to notify the authorities of its operations on the site and did not complete a risk assessment.
