A building sector watchdog is warning employees that falls from height remain the single biggest danger in the industry.

Melvyn Stancliffe, an inspector for the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), said that firms which work with scaffolding or are regularly operating on roofs should take extra precautions and ensure that their employees have safeguarded their wellbeing.

"The entire construction industry needs to make sure that workers are properly trained and supervised for the tasks they are given and that they follow accepted industry practices - such as taking measures to prevent falls," he explained.

Mr Stancliffe pointed to recent statistics released by the HSE which show that 32 workers died after falls from height in 2007-08, which illustrates the need for builders liability insurance.

Meanwhile, the HSE's figures also reveal that people in the north-west should take extra care when on construction sites, as in the last five years 82 workers in the region have died in incidents in outdoor workplaces between the months of July and October.ADNFCR-2022-ID-19334333-ADNFCR
