Public liability insurance holders have been told of the benefits of wearing safety straps when driving vehicles, particularly when using tractors during the busy harvest period.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said that not wearing a lap strap or seat restraint puts farmers at greater risk of being thrown from the cab and crushed.
Furthermore, they are also being put at risk of serious injury from being thrown around inside the cab.

According to the organisation, almost one in four fatal accidents in agriculture have involved workplace transport.

Harry Bottesch, HSE inspector, said: "Safety cabs have had to be fitted to tractors, by law, since the early 1970s and this has been a tremendous success in reducing fatalities but there are still several accidents every year where the driver is thrown from an overturning tractor."

Earlier this month, Joda Freight was prosecuted and a warning over workplace transport was issued after a man was left brain damaged by a falling panel saw.ADNFCR-2022-ID-800046889-ADNFCR
