A woodwork company based in Surrey has been given a conditional discharge after a worker was injured by falling MDF boarding, joiners liability insurance holders have been told.

Thistle Woodworks pleaded guilty to breaching Regulation 10(4) of the Work at Height Regulations 2005. It was given a conditional discharge of three months and ordered to pay costs of £1,544.40.

North West Surrey Magistrates heard how a stack of MDF panels at the firm's site in Lightwater fell on top of an employee, who suffered fractures to his forehead, eye socket, cheek bone and left arm.

Suzanne Matthews, Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspector, said that boards should never be stacked on their edge without adequate support, as was the case in the accident.

Recently, joiners liability insurance holders in nearby Fulham and Hammersmith could have received a visit from the HSE, as it carried out investigations into how risks are managed in the workplace with relation to manual handling, slips, trips and falls and asbestos.ADNFCR-2022-ID-19609700-ADNFCR
