Corus UK has been fined £5,000 after a worker was injured while clearing a blockage on a production line, public liability insurance holders have been told.
Trading as Corus Special Profiles, based in London, the firm pleaded guilty to breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and Regulation 3(1) of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
Teesside Magistrates Court was told how in May 2008, David Harrison, 41, a team leader at the East Cleveland factory, was clearing a jam from the machine, relying on relaying instructions via a third man to an operator above the mill floor.
Mr Harrison was struck by moving parts and severely injured his right leg.
Bruno Porter, Health and Safety Executive inspector, said that Mr Harrison is still receiving medical treatment for his injuries.
Last month, public liability insurance holders were told how Richard Burbridge, an Oswestry firm, was fined £5,000 after a worker almost lost a finger when his hand came into contact with a wood plane.
