Joiners liability insurance holders have been warned after a Troon-based sawmilling firm was prosecuted following severe injuries to two workers within three months.

Adam Wilson and Sons, of Harbour Road, Ayrshire, pleaded guilty to breaching Section 2(1) and 2(2)(a) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 in a May incident, and both of those sections plus 2(2)(c) in an August accident. It was fined £28,000 in total.

It came after John Wilson, 55, was working for the firm when he fell through a gap in a raised walkway and suffered serious injuries to his arm and permanent loss of movement in his shoulder.

Less than three months later, Robert Cumming, 59, was working at the same plant when his head was trapped between the metal parts of a hoist after it was switched on while working on it.

He required emergency surgery for his injuries and is having ongoing physiotherapy.

Earlier this month, Strata Homes was prosecuted after a worker was left paralysed from the chest down following being crushed by a steal beam.ADNFCR-2022-ID-800048612-ADNFCR
