Businesses which use all terrain vehicles (ATVs), such as quad bikes, need to make sure that they do so safely, according to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
The warning came after an intensive inspection initiative found that nearly two-thirds of Scottish farms were failing to do so.
Following visits to 58 farms, 36 improvement notices were issued, 25 of them for using ATVs without appropriate training, while ten were served for a lack of suitable head protection.
According to the HSE, two people die and over 1,000 are injured in ATV accidents each year.
Scott Walker, policy director for NFU Scotland, said: "There is one simple thing that anyone who uses a quadbike must remember - wear a helmet. Many of the quad bike injuries that occur each year could be avoided if a helmet was worn."
Workplace transport was recently highlighted when WSR Recycling was fined £10,000 after a worker lost part of his leg when he was crushed by an 18-tonne truck.
