A Falkirk man with asbestos-related disease mesothelioma has backed a new campaign aimed at joiners liability insurance customers.

Robert Hamilton, 66, was exposed to asbestos in his workplace and diagnosed with the industrial disease three years ago.

Since then, Mr Hamilton has undergone chemotherapy, lung surgery and radium treatment to alleviate his symptoms and is now unable to walk for more than 20 minutes.

"The life that I knew is gone. I cannot swim anymore and I struggle to walk up the steps in the football stand now when I go to watch Falkirk play. There are lots of things I took for granted that I used to be able to do, but now I just cannot," he said.

Latest research from the Health and Safety Executive shows that around 20 tradesmen die from asbestos related diseases every week, while there was 1,370 male deaths across Glasgow between 1981 and 2005.

The new campaign, which started today, is warning public liability insurance customers where asbestos-containing materials may be present, what they look like and how they should be dealt with.ADNFCR-2022-ID-19437316-ADNFCR
