A manufacturing firm has been fined a total of £40,000 after a worker was seriously injured.

Romtech, based in South Glamorgan, pleaded guilty to breaching the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 and section 3(1) of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.

It was fined £20,000 for each of the breaches and also made to pay £7,401 in additional costs.

Stafford Magistrates Court was told how Steven Jones, 28, from Staffordshire, was using a radial drill when his right hand glove became entangled.

His arm was caught and dragged into the drill, breaking both bones in his forearm and severely damaging his muscles.

Andrew Bowker, Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspector, told public liability insurance holders that it is unacceptable that these types of incidents are still happening.

Earlier this month, the HSE launched a crackdown on hazardous construction sites, including working with dangerous machinery.ADNFCR-2022-ID-19652371-ADNFCR
