Builders liability insurance holders have been warned about the dangers of gasworks after a loft conversion firm and its subcontractor were fined.

JS Loft Conversions of Lydney pleaded guilty to breaching Regulation 8(1) and 8(3) of the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998. It was fined £2,000 with costs of £1,103.10.

Sub-contractor Paul Joynes, pleaded guilty to breaching 8(1) and 8(2) of the same regulations and was given a £750 fine with £250 costs.

Stroud Magistrates Court heard how the firm and Mr Joynes were hired by a family in Stroud to install a loft conversion.

The work meant removing a chimney serving a gas fire and replacing it with a flexible gas flue pipe.

However, after this installation, the family asked a registered gas engineer to check the work, and the work was found to be "immediately dangerous".

Earlier this month, Anthony Grove, a plumber from Leigh-on-Sea pleaded guilty to illegally working on gas boilers when unregistered, exposing his customers to risk.ADNFCR-2022-ID-19806143-ADNFCR
