Joiners and construction workers have been told about the dangers of working on farms by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Peter Hamer, HSE agriculture inspector in Cumbria, said that every week, someone in the UK dies while working on a farm.
"These deaths are needless and most could be prevented by taking simple steps to improve safety," he added.
Mr Hamer was speaking as the HSE announced that it would be holding a free training day which will offer tips to farmers on how they can keep employees and contractors safe on their site.
Taking place at Newton Rigg College in Penrith on Thursday February 25th, the conference will feature practical safety demonstrations which will focus on transport, falls from height, manual handling, machinery and child safety.
Earlier this month, John Peter Metcalfe, of Ashbourne, Derbyshire, was fined £450 and ordered to pay costs of £1,000 after being prosecuted for reversing a tractor over a 73-year-old employer, leaving him dead.
