Four men who worked with or came into contact with asbestos have had inquests into their deaths held, joiners liability insurance holders have been told.
The North-West Evening Mail reported that two of the men died of mesothelioma, an asbestos-related disease.
In addition, the other two men died from a mixture of natural causes and industrial disease. It was also revealed that three of the deceased had come into contact with asbestos while working at Vickers.
John Bowes, from Flookborough, had four types of cancer, the Barrow Town Hall heard, in his bladder, lung, prostate and an inactive one in his bowel.
His wife, Maureen, told the inquest that her husband was a sheet metal worker by trade and had worked at the Vickers plant.
"I remembered him telling me he had to wear paper overalls as he was working with asbestos," she said.
According to the Health and Safety Executive, 4,000 people die each year because of asbestos-related diseases.
