A firm in Greater Manchester has been fined following an accident which resulted in an employee losing three fingers.

Tetrosyl of Bevis Green Works, Walmersley, was ordered to pay a £50,000 penalty with £6,141 in costs following the incident, which occurred in August last year.

Employee Robert Karpowicz, 21, was using a mixing machine at the firm's factory but had not be trained to do so, resulting in him amputating three fingers on the internal rotating blades, which highlights the need for joiners liability insurance.

Chris Smith, an inspector for the Health and Safety Executive, said the injury had a "devastating effect" on the employee, who has not worked since it occurred.

"The incident would have been totally avoidable if the company had followed the correct procedures. The danger of unguarded machinery cannot be highlighted too much," he explained.

Recently, engineering firm TC Industries of Europe Limited was fined £5,000 and ordered to pay £1,357 in costs after a worker had his finger sliced off while stacking machine parts, which shows the importance of public liability insurance.ADNFCR-2022-ID-19288784-ADNFCR
