An inquest has told public liability insurance holders that exposure to asbestos contributed to the death of an ex-Navy man.

ThisisBristol.co.uk reported that Gerald Harding, of Coronation Road, died in November last year from malignant mesothelioma and pneumonia.

An inquest at Flax Bourton Coroner's Court heard a letter from Mr Harding's widow Janet, who said that he had joined the Navy as a teenager and served on a number of ships, including HMS Brighton.

Another letter from the Royal Navy confirmed that Mr Harding would more than likely have been exposed to asbestos dust from lagging and insulation, which would have contributed to mesothelioma.

Phillip Howells, assistant deputy coroner concluded that he died from an industrial disease.

Earlier this week, the family of Richard Todd, from Darlington, said that they were appealing to his former colleagues to help in their fight for justice, after he died of asbestosis in December 2009.
