Painters liability insurance holders in the east of England have been told that around 7,500 working days are lost to slips, trips and falls each year.

New figures from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) showed that slips and trips are the most common cause of major workplace injury in Britain.

The watchdog revealed that 1,250 major injuries to workers occurred in the east of England alone last year, with a further 2,650 employees having to take more than three days off work after slipping, tripping or falling.

Simon Longbottom, head of operations for the HSE in the east, said that these figures highlight the very real and serious nature of preventable incidents in the workplace.

"Making improvements need not cost the earth and we are encouraging people to visit our Shattered Lives website, where they will be able to get simple and cost-effective solutions to help manage slips, trips and falls hazards in their workplace," he added.

Earlier this week, Charles Painting of Rotherham was fined £2,000 after a worker suffered life-changing injuries in a seven metre fall.ADNFCR-2022-ID-19607083-ADNFCR
