Public liability insurance holders need to make sure that they have safe systems of work in place after a firm was issued with a large fine.

Noon Products, based in Surrey, pleaded guilty to breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1874 and was fined £20,000. It was also ordered to pay costs of £5,491.

The city of London magistrates court heard how a worker was asked to repair a machine in the firm's factory when a dangerous part of it severed the tip of his right index finger.

An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that the machine was in a poor state of repair and crucial safety devices were broken or had been removed.

Neil Fry, HSE inspector, said that public liability insurance holders need to ensure that safe systems of work are in place on their premises.

In September this year, A.Schulman Inc was fined £18,000 after a worker lost parts of three fingers as he was attempting to clean an unguarded machine.ADNFCR-2022-ID-19507709-ADNFCR
