A Worcester landlord has been penalised for failing to properly maintain the gas appliances at his properties.

Shazad Ishaq, who lives in Wylds Lane, was been fined a total of £2,500 and ordered to pay £1,500 in costs at Worcester magistrates court after a series of offences at homes he owns on the same street.

The prosecution follows an incident in March last year when a family at one of the properties had to be evacuated and treated for suspected carbon monoxide poisoning when the gas boiler began emitting fumes, illustrating the need for electricians liability insurance.

Janice Willets, an inspector for the Health and Safety Executive, said subsequent investigations found that the equipment had not been properly maintained by the landlord.

"Further investigations also showed a landlord's gas safety certificate had not been made available to the tenant for several months," she commented.

Meanwhile, Peter Welke, formerly of Edelston Road in Blackpool, was recently charged with contravening gas safety regulations after conducting work while unregistered and sub-contracting to another unregistered fitter, which highlights the need for public liability insurance.ADNFCR-2022-ID-19286587-ADNFCR
