Public liability insurance holders have been warned about the dangers of working near power cables after the prosecution of a Scottish engineering firm.
WA Fairhurst & Partner admitted to breaching the Health and Safety at Work Act and was fined £25,000 following the death of one of its employees.
Stonehaven Sheriff Court heard how trainee surveyor Russell Donald, 20, was killed as a metal pole he was carrying touched a high-voltage power line above him in 2007.
His body was found after his father, Brian, went to look for him after his bosses failed to locate him.
Neil Shand, prosecuting, told the court: "This case came about as a result of a death in the course of employment. The deceased was a 20-year-old engineer who was surveying the locus and got electrocuted when carrying a pole under electric wires."
Last year, the Health and Safety Executive warned firms about the dangers of overhead cables after the prosecution of two members of Bramblebank Works, Blairgowrie, following the electrocution of an employee.
