Firms have been warned of the importance of preventing access to dangerous moving parts following the prosecution of two Leeds-based company directors.

Public liability insurance holders were told that a 57-year-old worker, who asked not to be named, had the ends of two fingers severed in the incident in April 2009 at Lutpon Fabrications, which was formerly owned by Dennis Brunt and Peter Critchard.

The pair were found guilty of breaching Regulation 11(1) of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 and fined a joint amount of £2,001 and ordered to pay £250 in costs.

Health and Safety Executive inspector Angus Robbins, said: "Preventing access to dangerous moving parts by having operational guards or other protective devices is essential. The standards of protection for hydraulic presses are well known within engineering businesses."

Earlier this month, Formica, of Cobalt Business Park, Newcastle, was prosecuted after a worker lost fingers in between metal rollers.ADNFCR-2022-ID-800046890-ADNFCR
