A number of health and safety reminders have been handed out to contractors and DIY enthusiasts.

The Guardian issued the tips on its websites, stating that no matter how keen someone is, there are some things that are best been left to someone who is qualified in that area, otherwise it could be "an expensive mistake".

"Changing a fuse or a plug is one thing, but installing or altering wiring is another. On average, ten people die and around 750 are injured annually in the UK through accidents involving domestic electrics. And, if that wasn't bad enough, nearly 2,350 house fires were caused by faulty installations in 2003," the guide said.

Public liability insurance holders were also told that workers should look out for the hidden killer, asbestos.

The source reminded that asbestosis is not only a disease for old miners, but for anyone who breathes in the cancer-causing fibers.

Last year, the Health and Safety Executive ran a campaign warning people about working with and the disposal of asbestos.ADNFCR-2022-ID-19569689-ADNFCR
