Employers are being warned that just one accident in the workplace could leave families torn apart, which may boost the need for liability insurance.

Speaking at the Royal Highland Show, Judith Donovan, the Health and Safety Executive's board-level agriculture champion, said that those who work outdoors and in agricultural jobs are still in greater danger than those in many other occupations.

"Deaths and injuries on farms continue to be caused by the same activities - working with vehicles and machinery [and] falls from height when working on roofs," she explained

Ms Donovan added that not only can fatal accidents destroy families, they can also ruin businesses, something she describes as a "double tragedy".

She urged workers to seek advice about health and safety and to work towards eliminating threats to people's wellbeing.
