Builders liability insurance holders have been warned about using machinery for its correct purpose.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said that buckets of telehandlers should not be used to drive in fencing posts.

It comes after a rise in the number of serious accidents where buckets have come loose and struck people underneath them.

Last month, a farm worker in Scotland badly injured a leg when he was hit by a falling bucket, while two people were killed in separate incidents in North Yorkshire last September.

Jean Edgar, HSE inspector, said: "Farm machinery should only be used for its intended purpose. Misusing equipment like telehandlers can lead to terrible tragedy. Where HSE identifies dangerous working practices like this, we will not hesitate to take enforcement action."

Earlier this week, it was revealed by the HSE that 62 per cent of Scottish farms visited were found not to be using all terrain vehicles, such as quad bikes, safely.ADNFCR-2022-ID-19862683-ADNFCR
