An upcoming event is to raise awareness of potentially deadly asbestos for businesses in Nottinghamshire.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE), Nottinghamshire Local Authority Health and Safety Liaison Group are coming together to host the event on Wednesday (July 1st), which will educate those in the construction industry about the threat of mesothelioma, among other dangers.
Pat Sanderson, principal occupational health inspector for the HSE, says exposure to asbestos is the single biggest workplace killer, claiming over 4,000 lives a year, which illustrates the need for employers liability insurance.
"The overall number of deaths is rising because a large number of workers who have already been exposed to asbestos dust during the last 40 years will go on to develop mesothelioma," he explains.
In other news, MP Michael Clapham recently told the Mirror that fellow politicians are backing measures proposed in a report entitled As Safe As Houses, which calls on landlords to manage asbestos in all parts of a property.
