Owners of small businesses will get to benefit from a new health and safety training course which has been launched, which might interest public liability insurance holders.
The scheme will help firms understand the basic needs of the health and safety in order to prevent accidents in the workplace, while also making sure that relevant health and risk laws are adhered to.
Any firm which takes part in the initiative will be given a British Safety Council certificate, to prove that they are fully trained.
Richard Evens, training and marketing director of St John Ambulance, said that businesses often find it daunting to bring in the necessary legal health and safety requirements because of a lack of resources.
"Last year, 1,100 businesses were taken to court because of health and safety failings, which resulted in convictions for 87 per cent. Our health and safety basics course will help clear up any confusion and ensure employers become proficient in this area and understand how their business can comply," he added.
The courses follow an initiative by the Health and Safety Executive last year, which offered training sessions to prospective public liability insurance holders of the future.
