A Wolverhampton-based firm has been prosecuted after putting workers at risk during the demolition of a roof.
Alexson Homes, of Ashmore Park, pleaded guilty to breaching Regulations 6(3) and 10(3) of the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and was fined £6,600 with costs of £900.
Stafford Magistrates Court heard how Stan Alexander, a director of the firm, his son Conrad and fellow director Dean Mason were taking apart the roof of a children's home in Brereton.
An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that there were no measures put in place to prevent the workers falling from the roof, while the men also put others at risk by dropping materials from the side of the property in an uncontrolled manner.
According to the HSE, other dangers which affect builders liability insurance holders include asbestos, carbon monoxide, dermatitis and hand-arm vibration, while manual handling and musculoskeletal disorders are also a danger.
