The owner of a pub might be prosecuted over its demolition, which has raised fears of asbestos being present at the site, builders liability insurance holders have been told.
ThisisGloucestershire.co.uk reported that Brian Williams ordered the Greyhound Inn on Hewlett Road, Whaddon, to be torn down, despite campaigners trying to save it.
It was revealed that Mr Williams did not apply for a demolition licence, and the local council is now looking into the matter.
"We are investigating the demolition of this building and the possibility of bringing criminal proceedings. It would not be appropriate to comment further until the investigation is complete," said a spokesperson for Cheltenham Borough Council.
According to the news source, the pub dates back to the 1840s and Mr Williams was understood to have sprayed water over bulldozed rubble to prevent dust from spreading to surrounding properties.
Earlier this week, the Morning Star reported that the family of Richard Todd, from Darlington, are seeking help from his former colleagues after he died from asbestosis.
