Builders liability insurance holders have been warned about working with safety equipment after the prosecution of a Merseyside builder.
Charles Molloy from Molloy Building, pleaded guilty to breaching Regulation 6(3) of the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and was fined £1,500 with additional costs of £1,000.
St Helens Magistrates Court heard how Mr Molloy, 64 had been hired to replace tiles on top of the Black Horse Hotel in the town. However, a Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspector spotted the builder and an employee without harnesses, while scaffolding or other safety precautions were also not used.
Sandra Tomlinson, HSE inspector, said: "Falls from height kill dozens of workers every year and seriously injure hundreds more. We will therefore continue to prosecute employers who put lives in danger."
Earlier this week, Canary Wharf Management warned builders liability insurance holders about the dangers of working at height and the measures which need to be taken.
