Public liability insurance holders have been warned about disposing of asbestos in the right way after a man was prosecuted after being caught on camera fly tipping the deadly material.
The Yorkshire Post reported that Shaun O'Neil, 42, was fined £200 with costs of £2,117 after he was charged under the Environmental Protection Act.
Leeds Magistrates Court was told that Mr O'Neill was seen fly tipping five large bags filled with the remains of the asbestos garage at his property.
His employers used vehicle tracking software to confirm that the vehicle was at the site at the time of the fly tipping.
Councillor Colin Campbell, Leeds Council's lead member for environmental health, said: "It is worrying that asbestos was being dumped, putting people's health at risk, and we will always take action against those who seek to dump their rubbish on the streets."
According to the Health and Safety Executive, around 4,000 deaths a year are caused by asbestos.
