Workers who helped to build some of the UK's biggest power stations are facing death from asbestos-related diseases.

The hundreds of builders who helped to construct the Drax, Ferrbridge and Eggborough facilities in Yorkshire are sitting on a "timebomb" because they used deadly asbestos during the procedure, the BBC reports.

Claims lawyer Howard Bonnett told the publication that the number of people being diagnosed with asbestos-related diseases such as mesothelioma is expected to "spike" in the coming years, as those who came into contact with it in the 70s and 80s begin to show the effects, which highlights the need for builders liability insurance.

"It sounds melodramatic to say we're sat on an asbestos timebomb, but we are," he explained.

Meanwhile, the Health and Safety Executive and Wyre Borough Council announced they are to visit nearly 120 companies on the Red Marsh industrial estate in Thornton Cleveleys as part of a campaign to eliminate the danger of asbestos, which may interest liability insurance customers.ADNFCR-2022-ID-19290788-ADNFCR
