The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is set to arrange further stonemasons' risk management events to meet demand after the success of a recent conference.

An information day held in Vauxhall, south London, proved to be such a success that the government body will now arrange further events for builders liability insurance holders.

Steve Kirton, HSE inspector, said: "The stone safety awareness day at Marmi & Granito was a great success. We have been overwhelmed by the response to this event - which was the first of its kind."

He added that builders liability insurance holders need to be aware of hazards when cutting stone, such as fatal respiratory problems caused by breathing in dust.

Simon Hunter, managing director of Marmi & Granito, commented that the event gave it a chance to show its commitment to health and safety.

During the event, workers were given tips and advice on how to safely remove slabs of stone from vehicles, how to control silica and other dusts and how to control noise and vibration from hand-tools.ADNFCR-2022-ID-19695789-ADNFCR
