Health and safety in the workplace is not something that can be compromised by builders liability insurance holders, according to an industry chairperson.

Judith Hackitt, head of the Health and Safety Executive, told the Guardian that its remit is to make businesses and areas of work safer, adding that managing risk is getting more difficult over time.

"You need to look at the number of people who die every year because of harm that's been done to them in the workplace over several years, and that's harder to measure. It is absolutely right and proper that we put time and effort into making sure that today's young tradesmen understand," she commented.

Ms Hackitt told the news source that she is concerned about tradesmen who are exposing themselves to harm, for instance, by not wearing earplugs when operating drilling equipment.

Prime minister David Cameron recently announced that a review on health and safety laws would be carried out, with Lord Young of Graffham reporting back to him.ADNFCR-2022-ID-19865250-ADNFCR
