Public liability insurance holders of the future will benefit from a college's backing of a Health and Safety Executive (HSE) campaign.

Darlington College's £35 million state-of-the-art premises is now backing the HSE's Shattered Lives campaign which is trying to reduce the number of slips, trips and falls in the workplace.

It has already taken steps to avoid incidents of this type in its joinery, brickwork, plastering and plumbing training areas thanks to risk assessments identifying areas of concern, while safety footwear is also now worn.

Viewing bays have been introduced in certain areas, allowing visitors to see the workshops safely.

David Cole, HSE principal inspector in the north-east, said: "Making improvements doesn’t need to cost the earth and we are encouraging people to visit the Shattered Lives website, where they will be able to get simple and cost-effective solutions."

Last month, Dave Hulme, the man responsible for cleaning the glass floors atop the 158-metre-high Blackpool Tower, warned public liability insurance holders about the dangers of falls in the workplace.ADNFCR-2022-ID-19644585-ADNFCR
