An investigation has been called for after bags of low-risk asbestos waste near a children's play area were removed after being sat there for 15 days.

The Northants Evening Telegraph reported that sacks of the cancer-related material were taken away from a playground at the bottom of Pen Green Lane, Corby.

They were reported to Corby Council on July 15th by a local resident and by local councillor Mark Pengally.

"I am extremely disappointed by the lack of action by the council. Although this was low risk asbestos waste, it shouldn't have taken this length of time to remove it. I want a full investigation into the matter," said Mr Pengally.

Michael Quarrington, the resident who reported the waste, added that CCTV could be used in the area, as rubbish-laden vans have been seen going in and returning empty.
