Builders liability insurance holders have been warned about the dangers of workplace transport after a local council was fined.

Bridgend County Borough Council pleaded guilty to a breach of Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and was fined £10,000 with costs of £5,623.60.

Those present at Bridgend Magistrates Court heard how council employee Mark Morgan was driving a one-ton dumper truck in September 2008 when it toppled over.

His leg was trapped between the vehicle and a tree and he needed to be airlifted to hospital for an operation on his broken leg.

An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive found that the vehicle was not suitable for the gradient it was being used on, while a formal, written risk assessment was not carried out.

Vehicle safety was recently in the news after Roadways Container Logistics, of Stourton, was fined £25,000 with costs of £100,000 following the death of an employee.ADNFCR-2022-ID-19800137-ADNFCR
