A group of campaigners have demanded to see employees' insurance details who are carrying out work on an asbestos-contaminated site.

The Runcorn and Widens Weekly News reported that the North Widnes Residents Association claims that the documents will highlight the levels of risk that workers on the Marley Eternit site are being exposed to.

Peter Brewin, chairman of the association, said that the group is also wanting to know what developers, Bellway Homes, are planning to tell prospective home buyers about the site.

"We have been trying to find out the insurance details but they haven't divulged. Bellway say they will give us some details once they have bought the land. We're still hoping the planning permission will be looked at again under judicial review," he added.

Bellway is planning to build 123 homes at the site, which used to be an asbestos factory. It was given planning permission in January to the dismay of campaigners who said that work would put people's health at risk.

Earlier this week, asbestos forced a Blaenau Gwent fire station into a £500,000 rebuild for fears of damaging worker's health.ADNFCR-2022-ID-19806148-ADNFCR
