Builders liability insurance holders in North and West Yorkshire will be given expert advice at an exhibition to help reduce accidents, injury and ill health in the workplace.
Taking place at the Leeds College of Building, Stourton, on September 8th, the Health Awareness Day will cover key areas to improve safety in what is one of Britain's most dangerous industries.
Richard Thorpe, a health and safety awareness officer for the Health and Safety Executive, said that total of 41 construction workers lost their lives at work in 2009/10, while three million working days are lost in the building trade every year due to injury and ill health.
"The aim of this event is to not only raise awareness of key health and safety risks facing the industry, but also to give practical advice on how to avoid risks in the first place," he stated, adding that the topics covered are vitally important to owners, directors or managers of small building firms or contractors.
Recently, builders liability insurance holders were warned about the dangers of asbestos after a Solihull firm was fined £1,000 for failing to take precautions against the cancer-related material.
