Builders liability insurance holders have been told to make sure that they take precautions against asbestos, following the prosecution of a firm.

Greswolde Construction, of Station Road, Knowle, pleaded guilty to a breach of regulation 10(1) and one of 11(1)(a) of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 and was fined £1,000 with costs of £2,268.

Stratford-upon-Avon Magistrates Court heard how the firm failed to warn its employees that the cancer-related substance was present while working at Rokeby Primary School, Rugby, despite being in possession of a survey detailing where the material was.

Paul Cooper, Health and Safety Executive inspector, said: "The dangers of asbestos are well known in the building industry so for the managers of Greswolde Construction not to inform their employees of its presence shows a complete disregard for their safety and wellbeing."

Last month, Ron Couch Building Contractors was prosecuted for carrying out unlicensed asbestos removal, despite being warned that the materials they were handling could contain the dangerous substance.ADNFCR-2022-ID-800035005-ADNFCR
