A property developer has been prosecuted for serious safety failings that endangered the lives of workers, builders liability insurance holders have been told.

HQ Leisure Limited, of Park Drive, Bradford, pleaded guilty to six charges; one breach of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, two of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 and three of the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and was fined £10,000.

Hull Magistrates Court heard that inspectors from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found a number of problems on a site where a row of four-storey terrace buildings were being converted into apartments.

These included rear scaffolding not been properly inspected, no toilet being provided for workers and unsuitable ladders being used.

Stephen Hargreaves, HSE inspector, said that with many people being killed on construction sites each year, it is important for builders liability insurance holders to carry out suitable planning and risk management.

Later this month, students from Salford University will be warned about the potential dangers of the industry at a conference for trainee construction workers.ADNFCR-2022-ID-19633236-ADNFCR
